Our garden project is moving along. Mintz will be posting some pics and talking about how her class is searching for free soil. We are almost done the digging so that the border is complete. I am just hoping the winter freeze/thaw will not disrupt the vertical posts too much. Although, I am sure there is a good states of matter lesson in there, if they do tilt.
I wanted to post a little about the "Focus on Nature" day that we participated in on April 4th. It was really a great experience for my class. Click here to visit my class wiki and see the link to the all of the top ten photos if you would like to view them. My favourite part of the day was watching how their perspective changed. They really tuned in the little things that are often overlooked..finding beauty in unusual places. Parents have been emailing as well telling me about the interest in photography at home. I am looking for some follow up activities still. I have been meaning to contact the conservation area to see if they would like to use some of the photos on their website. You could have them use one of their photos to do some descriptive writing or use it as a setting for a narrative story (Deepti)
I am urging Brendan to sell the photos as photocards locally. They could either sell them at school or even see if they can put them in stores (not sure about the formalities of that) but I am in for buying some. They are spectacular and promote and represent our area so well. - Tracey
They would also look great as thank you cards from Rockwood school and of course they would be great to promote the Cons. (Deepti)
Brendan- I looked at your class Wiki- great spot for information for your students and for parents. How often do students access it in class? or is it from home? The Focus on Nature pictures are breathtaking. Could the students write a persuasive piece to their principal (or audience of choice- parent council, local media) to recommend that this program be brought back again? (Natalie)
